Glimpses of my study-abroad in London
Over the summer, I had the chance to immerse myself in London’s buzzing design culture alongside some of the sharpest minds from UW’s Human-Centered Design and Engineering department. We worked out of the University of the Arts London, where we had the opportunity to learn from graduates and faculty who live and breathe design in one of the most dynamic creative hubs in the world.
This wasn’t just a study abroad program—it was a one-month deep dive into critical design practice, where every experience, every street corner, every museum exhibit, and plate of fish and chips became part of the curriculum. Between seminar sessions, guest speakers, field trips, and critiques, we didn’t just study design—we lived it.
Each week, we tackled a different project, exploring speculative and post-humanist design futures through hands-on work. London, with its layered history and relentless innovation, pushed me to see beyond the surface, to question, to create. From creating physical prototypes to exploring how spaces, objects, and interactions come together to form meaningful experiences, this approach made me appreciate the depth and breadth of design so much more.
I can’t wait to share the work! The case studies are a few rainy days away from completion. In the meantime, here are some postcards from my time in London:
Before and after my time in London, I took off on a solo backpacking trip across different cities in Europe. I ate ridiculously good food, walked until my feet begged for mercy, ran out of money (oops), and developed a newfound appreciation for how design breathes life into a city. Turns out, getting lost in a new place is sometimes the best way to find clarity.
There’s so much more I’m excited to share—about the projects I worked on in London and what it was like navigating Europe solo, so stay tuned! ;)
